After a year of the untamed wild west App Store, we're entering the phase where long-term Macintosh developers are finally starting to enter the iPhone game in force. This is a great development, with some caveats. The iPhone is not the Macintosh, and iTablet rumors aside, it's not likely to be anytime soon. But when a Mac developer who "gets it" starts developing for the iPhone, you should pay strict attention.

Birdhouse

The App Store is a mess, that's a fact. There are close to 100,000 apps available at the time that this review was written, and a few weeks ago there were more than 3000 apps submitted to Apple in one week. Apple has it's work cut out to make the process of finding quality apps easier, but since they are the only vendor, they really don't have too much driving them to do that, the app consumer is always going to buy at the App Store because there is no other place to get apps.

Screenplay formatting software is not a new scam. Many wannabe screenwriters have forked over two-hundred plus dollars for what is essentially a stripped-down word processor with fancy formatting. I know this because I am one of them.

So when I got tweeted a link to a screenplay application for the iPhone, my rational mind was mugged by my irrational mind, and before I knew it, it had dropped onto my iPhone. In my mind, I was already writing scenes on the fly, at the beach, at lunch, without the hideous burden of carrying a laptop.

Strip stands for "Secure Tool for Recalling Important Passwords". If you are looking for a security app for passwords and other sensitive data, Strip is fit for the job. It is in effect an encrypted notepad for all of your passwords and other sensitive data like banking, legal or professional information. The official App Store category for Strip is Productivity, but it just as easily falls into the Utilities or Security genres.

Strip uses 256-bit AES encryption to protect your data securely. It has a clean, easy to use interface with plenty of options for organizing your data. If you can not find the type of label or icon you need to give an item, there is an easy customizing feature. Data can be very easily separated into genres, with multiple listings under each header. Strip has a great random password generator that appears on the options page of each new entry. The password generator utilizes the accelerometer in a cool way, shake the phone to generate passwords. There is also a full text search and you can view recently opened data files.
