The news genre is getting pretty full, and that means repetitive. There are tons of news content delivery apps available that do the job and do it well. Some of them have gotten incredibly intricate and offer a sea of information, some are specific to a single news source, and some specialize in local news. While I was skeptical about any new entry to the seemingly played out news content delivery genre, Custom News has actually proven itself to be very useful.

There are a bunch of really good local news delivery apps out right now, some reviewed on AppsAddicts.com. NewsFlash delivers local news according to your zip code, and World Newspapers searches the world city by city for every online news tid-bit available. While I highly recommend both of those apps, and will even venture to say that no iPhone slinging news junky should be without them, Fwix just may be the most cutting edge local news delivering service yet. It offers the perfect synthesis of social media sharing and news delivery.

I'm going to come right out and say that World Newspapers is a must have for any iPhone owner out there who considers themselves a news junkie. Having the NYT, WSJ, AP Mobile and BBC Reader gives you a thorough look at all of the major news topics globally, but what if you want in depth local news? There are a few apps that will select random articles near you by using the GPS feature or honing in on your zip code, but if you want to read the whole publication you have to find it through Safari- if it's even available, and you aren't going to find any foreign news.

Newsflash was developed by students at U. of Missouri for the Donald W. Reynolds Institute's 2008/9 iPhone Competition, an event sponsored by both AT+T and Apple. With those credentials it should be obvious that this is not your run of the mill slapped together test project indie app. Newsflash is a high caliber news application that hides behind a home-made indie looking interface.
