It's funny how iPhone development is pushing the limits of what a screen can do: from games to newspapers to music, it feels like many apps are utilizing every available pixel of real estate. But I find when it comes to utilities, simplicity and elegance are key. That's how Convert, by Inventive, Inc, came to live on my Utilities screen.

Curling is a very strange sport. Not the uber-violent Irish stick/ball sport, although that's pretty weird, I'm talking about the Olympic (!) sport that entails sliding smooth blocks of granite down an icy path while two of your friends scrub the ice furiously. It's a Canadian thing, and so is zinc Roe's Arctic Shuffle, the game in which you curl with penguins.

Who doesn't love Zombies? Slow moving, gullible, funny sounding, mostly walking around in clumsy, easy to slay packs. There are an infinite number of ways to kill them too, every new Zombie flick has some original moves, like my favorite, the record album thrown ninja-star-like to the forehead. The only problem is that when they start to really congregate they can easily cut off the escape route, surround you, mob you, drag you down and eat you in cold blood. Then you get to join their club.

Trapped is another high quality offering from the hit game makers Com2Us. It offers all you would ever want in a Zombie game, creepy story line, dark surroundings, cool music and of course, the standard arms dangling in front- foot shuffling hordes of Zombies.

I love when developers come up with an app that adds functionality to a pre-existing application. To me that is what the basic apps that come installed on your iPhone are all about, the camera is a great example, as simple as it gets, yet with a multitude of apps that enhance it's presence. Locations is one of those apps that adds depth to a standard app, in this case Maps.

I love my iPhone camera. True, it takes pretty low quality pictures compared to what it could, but it's always with me, it is better than the average mobile phone camera and the apps make it unbeatable. You can do anything to an iPhone image from your photo library. B+W is one of the basic filters you can apply to your pics, but A+ Black and White Camera does a better job than any other B+W conversion app available.

I like to appear smart, everyone does. The iPhone can really do wonders for your genius rating, especially if you don't divulge that you had help when you point out and name the different things that surround you. Who doesn't love Latin names for plants, random impossible to pick out constellations, vague historically important places and names? ISS visibility gives you the ability to step outside of the pub late at night, look at your watch knowingly and say "The International Space Station should be right about there (pointing) in less than a minute". And lo-and-behold, there it is, soaring by right on time. Win friends and influence others as they say.
