More functionality for your camera. Most point and shoot cameras are designed to give you none, or very little, control over depth of field. Depth of field on an SLR is controlled with the F-stop ring on the camera's lens. Depth of field is defined simply as the gradual decrease in sharpness from the center or focal point of a photograph. Point and shoots are designed to take great landscape, portrait and snap-shots. In all of these situations total clarity and sharpness, or hyper-focus, is what look best. But in macro and artistic situations D.O.F. comes into play.
Depth of field is what every photo student learns, and struggles with, first. Adding depth of field to an image makes it much more interesting. A sharp subject in the foreground and a slowly blurring background, or blurred foreground fading into a sharp subject in the distance, give photographs a feel of reality and strength. Depth of field has a way of making big things look small, large things look big, and adding size and distance to a landscape.
Vint Shift adds this capability to your camera with one touch customizing. Capture an image, apply the filter, select save and you are done. It very simply gradually blurs the image starting at the edges of the focal point and moving outward. In effect it applies a filter to the image after it has been taken, just like in Ps.
If you are looking to get the most out of your iPhone camera, it is essential to apply custom filters to your images. Depth of field is such a basic yet crucial addition to any camera's functionality. Vint Shift, at $0.99 will liven up your iPhone photos, and will even surprise serious photographers when you tell them that you took the image that you just sent them with your iPhone. This is a perfect addition to your photo app bag of tricks.
