I've been on DailyMugshot.com for almost a year now, and I have to say I'm pretty obsessive about taking and uploading a mugshot every single day at the exact same time. If you've never heard of DailyMugshot.com, it's a social networking site of sorts, or if you don't want to share, it's a personal documentation of your face as time slips by relentlessly dragging you closer and closer to looking like the old person you never thought you'd be.

With Daily Mugshot you take a headshot of yourself with your computer's camera once a day (ultimately, but it's actually pretty hard to never miss a day), and it uploads to your account. When you play your "Mugshow", you basically see a flip-book of the dozens or even hundreds of photos you have taken of your slowly withering face flash by. It's amazing how many times you can look like crap over the course of a year. If you are very consistent with the app and there is very little movement in the frame, the resulting "Mugshow" is very, very cool.

Like any other social networking site, you can browse other people's Mugshows, and favorite them and comment on them. Some people have literally hundreds of fans. I have none. Sometimes Social Networking can be kind of a bummer. But still, Daily Mugshot can be embedded on your Facebook page, and I have like 200 friends there so that kind of makes up for it. Except that my buddy Brendan is the only one who ever watches my Mugshow, and he likes to point out that I must have been up really late the night before or did I get that shirt out of the laundry hamper or did I start drinking again or was the water pressure kind of low for your shower this morning or maybe I should have kept the sunglasses on for the shot.

Daily Mugshot used to have a feature that allowed you to take a picture with your mobile phone and email it in. I kind of flaked on that, it seemed a little contrived, and anything I can't get done in under a minute or less than one click these days makes my mind wander. Sad isn't it? Well, the new iPhone app for Daily Mugshot fixes that conundrum. It makes it much simpler to take my picture and get it uploaded. The only thing I would like to see that the app does not have is a way to watch your Mugshow from within the app. You can go to the site through Safari, but it would be uber-cool to check it out within the app itself.

If you don't care about looking like crap and want to mingle virally with other like minded ugly people, check out DailyMugshot.com, express yourself, it's free. Even if you don't decide to grace the world with an awesome day by day documentation of your unfailing beauty, go to the site and browse through some Mugshows, it's pretty cool. I'm pate88. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. Not.
