Taking your bookmarks on the go has become much easier with the release of Yummy, a de.licio.us client for the iPhone. Yummy allows you to access your saved bookmarks by date or tag, send them to instapaper, or broadcast them over your preferred Twitter client.
Del.icio.us is a pretty bare-bones site, graphically, taking a page from the Google playbook. Yummy adopts this design sensibility for its user interface. Nothing fancy here: it uses the standard iPhone interface to access your del.icio.us bookmarks. This streamlines the application, making it fast on the client side - which, at least initially, is desperately needed. Depending on the number of bookmarks you've stored in del.icio.us, the initial download can take a while. After the app has downloaded your del.icio.us information, it seems to store a copy locally, making access significantly faster.
Once you access your bookmarks, you can sort by tag or by date, or search by tag. Tap once to get essential information like tag, date saved, url and description. From this screen, you can send a link via mail, Twitter, or open it in Safari.Tap on the URL to see the page in Yummy's internal browser. You can add, edit or delete bookmarks for your account.
Annoyingly, the application asks you to enter your password after you close the application for a while. I don't know about you, but my bookmarks aren't necessarily privileged information; I'd rather have instant access. The interface is quick, but limited: it's an interesting tool for managing your del.icio.us bookmarks, but not great for viewing them. It seems to be ideally designed for bookmark pack rats: those who bookmark a ton of links and then sort through them later. If this describes you, then this app might help you stay organized while you're on the go. If you're not... maybe you can wait until you get back to your computer.
