To start off, I'm a sucker for any game that involves destruction, and T.A.N.K. offers up plenty of that. This game is a great example of a small development company (three guys) putting out a very professional, high-end game that is more characteristic of a product from a larger, established gaming development company. These guys practiced in the 3D realm with Christmas Tree 3D and Snowman 3D, and have put those skills to use in T.A.N.K. Arena Battle. How they got from cutesy holiday apps to smoke, flames and destruction is lost on me, but they did a great job of it.
T.A.N.K. consists of two futuristic tanks squaring off against each other with only some blocky structures and an electrical pit dividing them. Blast away at the opponent either directly or with really cool bank shots, he will return the favor for you. Steer the tank with your thumbs on controls on either side of the screen, just like any two tread vehicle game. A center button can be wailed on like the best games, the faster the finger the faster the rounds get squeezed off. You have multiple tanks for each round, so does your opponent. Getting blown up is pretty cool, as is blowing up your opponent, a total 3D explosion. There are eight levels to go through, starting at Lieutenant and ending at 5 Star General. That makes this game long-term playable, plenty of room to improve and hold the interest of the player. As you move up through the levels you have the options to switch up to faster tanks and more powerful ammo. The barriers between you and your opponent change from level to level, becoming more and more intricate. Lose all of your lives on a level and go right back to the beginning of that level.
Like I said already, T.A.N.K. is a very professional looking game. The graphics are 3d and very well done. There are multiple well though out tank designs to choose from and each type of ammo is distinct from the other. My favorite tank is one that looks like the evil incarnate of my yellow DeWalt powerdrill. T.A.N.K. has enough levels and battlefield layouts that it keeps you coming back without getting bored. The steering is intricate also, and each speed requires a learning curve, so mastery is not easy. If you are a fan of vehicle assault games, T.A.N.K. Arena battle is absolutely the meager $0.99 price. It offers a lot of bang for your buck, pun intended.
