Once in a while a game comes around that is so simple and fun it's mind boggling. While shoot 'em ups, slash and hacks and full on sports games are impressive, there's also a lot to be said for subtle, relaxing, thinking games. Khromax is the epitome of simple, addicting fun.
The game is self explanatory, you learn by playing. Improvisation of strategy is at of the appeal. Colored circles appear on the screen at a steady rate. Touch and slide the circles to the matching color to eliminate the pair and score points. There are 4 colors at the beginning of each game, slowly progressing to eight. The circles will start to stack up on each other and block clear paths. Rearranging the circles and how you do it is crucial strategy. Touch two non matching colors and the game is over. A simple explanation of a simple game.
The sound effects are different tones as the circles are touched, and it starts to get melodic and soothing the faster the game gets. The sounds are perfectly designed, and the colors are sharp and easy to tell apart. The closest thing that I can compare this game to would be Flight Control, which is saying a lot. The same increasing speed of play, organizational thinking skills and "play again immediately" reaction are present in Khromax. When I first started playing I found myself caught in the pleasant iPhone zone of "just one more time." An impressive $0.99 cheap app that will have a long life on your phone.
