Cychosis is one of those apps that can be applied to the fictional category of "Green Apps". The App Store should have that category. Whatever category it inhabits in the App Store, it's a great tool for those iPhone users out there who are emission reducing, healthy heart maintaining, traffic reducing bicycle commuters and sport or recreational riders.
Cychosis is a cycling journal. It records everything about your riding life; your heart rate, changes in your body weight, your routes, your elevation gain and loss, the gradients you travel, and the speeds you travel at in those categories. The data entered is displayed to you in great charts that really help you understand the particulars about your cycling life. The way to check out graphs is very original, rotate the phone and the graph appears for whatever ride you are looking at on the rides screen. Cool. If you are sharing information with a group who you ride with, people who share the same commute or training partners, you can auto Tweet the results of your rides. You can also export data to crunch in spreadsheets on your desktop.
To use the app you record stats and routes under Rides, Routes and Goals. A bike category lets you record stats according to which bike you use for which activity. I found this particularly useful for recording stats of my trainer spinning while I'm at home. The app gives you stats for the week, month, year, or all together. The way Cychosis organizes and presents data is straightforward and easy to read. When you look at a graph of your progress you will be amazed at your activity levels, especially if you are a commuter.
I've put this app to the test for the last couple of weeks and it's now a functional part of my riding life. I take the data that used to just sit on my bike computer and transfer it immediately to Cychosis. In the past I'd have to wait to get to my desktop to see usable data of my rides across a span of time, now I can see that information almost immediately. Isn't that what the iPhone is all about- immediate, on hand satisfaction? If you are a cyclist and you want to start to set and achieve goals, see activity and progress or share with fellow riders, Cychosis is a fantastic app. It's $1.99 and well worth the price. If you are a cyclist you know that this is probably the cheapest bike accessory you will ever buy, and it is one of the most helpful for improving the quality of your cycling life.
