From the developer who brought you Distant Suns, the coolest star-gazing app available, now comes a very cool take on a weather app. Mike Smithwick's head is in the clouds, or stars, or deep space, or somewhere but here on terra firma. He has managed to put out the most original "weather app" available with Weather Planet.

Watch the weather patterns shift and the seasons change in close to real time from thousands of miles in space. Weather Planet is the simplest weather app available- it lets you see what the weather is doing from an ISS point of view. The app uses current satellite images to show the Earth's current cloud cover. You can watch seasons change as the Earth tilts on it's axis and the snow moves into it's winter homes.

You can drag the image of Earth around to check out the whole globe, and you can mark different cities and store their locations. Label the constellations in the background, or head on out to the moon for a look back at our planet from Armstrong's flag. Or somewhere near it. The app receives news alerts to keep you in the know about current or upcoming conditions.

Probably the simplest weather app available, but it is very cool and is a great addition to your favorite weather app. Instead of checking numerous radar screens across your area you can get the whole picture by seeing the entire country, continent or hemisphere. This is a very cool $0.99 app that is a great addition to any astronomy/weather buff iPhone users out there.
