I love when developers come up with an app that adds functionality to a pre-existing application. To me that is what the basic apps that come installed on your iPhone are all about, the camera is a great example, as simple as it gets, yet with a multitude of apps that enhance it's presence. Locations is one of those apps that adds depth to a standard app, in this case Maps.

Locations is well thought out and easy to use and drastically enhances the Maps app. Locations allows you to to add markers, or bookmarks, on your maps and stores them in an straightforward, concise way. Create a Category, then add entries to it as necessary. You can nail the location of every spot that you want to hit on your vacation, the location of your kids many activities, or even, horrors, all of your local family members. You can store the physical address or the latitude/longitude position of the location. Locations uses the GPS feature of the iPhone to show you exactly where you are in regards to the location you are looking for. You can take a picture of the location and add notes, a brilliant feature.

This app is endlessly useful. Make a list of places you need to go for errands, and just get in the car and go, the app will put you right on track from one to the next. Make a list of places you want to see while visiting another city, the app will facilitate navigating from one to the next. Create a list of your wife's relatives locally, statewide, nationally or worldwide and know exactly how close to not get to that location. I like using the app to give people directions without having to explain anything at all, just look at the phone- location, directions and photo of destination right there.

Extending the capabilities of already solid features on your iPhone is a great thing to do. Park Locations right next to Maps and you will quickly find that you are using it a lot, and the more data you store in it the more you will use it. It has become a permanent resident on my second screen where all of my Navigation apps live, and it's not going anywhere, this is an app that offers features which make it perma-useful. $0.99 is nothing for the added functionality Locations gives you.
