The iPhone is the perfect platform for completely addicting games that have the capability of eating up hours of otherwise productive time. I have not found many apps outside of the game genre that have qualities that would make them truly addicting. That is why I am so impressed with FingerPiano. There are a lot of synthesizer, DJ mixer type apps in the App Store, and some of them are really fun to use, you can create very complex music with mini-professional mixing devices. FingerPiano does something totally different than any other app in the Music genre, it allows you to play classic songs yourself on a piano keyboard, guiding you through each song.
The app features a keyboard layout that has descending markers above it. By following the markers you tap out songs. It is like a piano teacher that sits ext to you guiding your fingers to the correct keys. There are an amazing amount of classical pieces, traditional folk songs and pop songs available in the repertoire to select from. You can choose between left hand and right hand instruction. When you get together with another FingerPiano player you can each play a hand and really make some mind-blowing digital music together. You can also play both hands at once with a little practice.
I have found myself going to FingerPiano again and again over the last game that I was playing incessantly. There is no score and no opponent in FingerPiano, just you and the keyboard. And it is FUN! FingerPiano is one of those apps that you show to other iPhone users or non-iPhone owners ad they say "Wow". It's so simple in concept, and so fun to use, yet at the same time really uses the iPhone technology to it's fullest. There is no other smart phone on the market that offers a comparable app, this is classic iPhone. Incredibly original, infinitely entertaining and fun, FingerPiano is an app that I will give a "Must Have" status to. There is a lite version also, try it and you'll be hooked. The repertoire available in the paid version makes it totally worth the price. The price is scheduled to go up with an update, so score it now for the $1.99 price.
