I have been suffering a little lull in addictive games the last few weeks. I topped out in Space Invaders Infinity (guess it's not REALLY infinity is it guys?), mastered all of my missions in iBomber, blasted away all the creeps in Geo-Defense, know every riff in my music library thanks to MusicIQ and schooled the iPhone routinely in 10Pin Shufffle. Toobz came along the other day and grabbed my attention pretty forcefully.
There are thirty squares of grass on the screen, with a spigot placed randomly in a square at the start of the game. You are given a series of pipes to choose from to build a network that water can flow through without spilling out of the ends. It is up to you when to start the water flowing, the better you get the faster you turn it on, the faster you advance levels. As soon as you lose water out of the end of a tube, game over. There are two different options for games, one where you get to see only the next tube to become available, and another where you can see four.
When you first start this game up you will instantly fail. That is something that immediately gets my attention. As you play more and more you extend the playing time. This is a very original game, I'm not sure that there is a particular genre it can be placed in except "Timed Action" or something like that. I've got to hand it to the guys at Off Center Software, nice job.
Toobz is a really good game, it sucks you in slow and makes you want to come back and beat the last score every time, even if the kettle is whistling, the phone is ringing and the dog is panting and scratching at the door. Toobz has the ability to stay on your phone for quite a while, fairly rare for a $0.99 game. If you are like me and are always looking for the next one to kill hours and hours with, grab Toobz.
